Football Manager Handheld 2009 for PSP release date announced

New Handheld version has 2D match engine and more to bring it closer to PC experience

Football Manager Handheld 2009 for PSP release date announced

It's that time of years again when Sega and Sports Interactive get together to update the prolific Football Manager franchise. The Handheld version for the PSP will launch simultaneously with the PC and Mac on November 14th, and promises to feature some significantly improved features.

The YouTube video detailing the new features of FMH2009 is fairly lacklustre, but the information's all there and sounds decidedly exciting. The most prominent improvements to the PSP version are the options to add up to three top tier leagues to a single game, and the inclusion of a 2D match engine.

The match engine is something PC users have had for a while now, allowing managers to view the game as it plays out. FMH2009 is the first time the function has appeared on the PSP, however, and provides you with either a full pitch view or a zoomed in, panning perspective of the action.

Other improvements include receiving feedback from your assistant manager on player motivation and the success or failure of your tactics, media rumours and press conferences (where an answer given to a question early on in the game can apparently come back to haunt you) and, for the first time ever, the inclusion of female managers! Controversial, eh?

It all kicks off in November, so hit 'Track It!' now to get a look at further coverage on Pocket Gamer as it happens. Until then, you can check out the video below to hear what Sports Interactive has to say:

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
