Freeverse is celebrating this week after its hit iPhone game Flick Fishing joins the elite pantheon of App Store products to clock up over a million downloads.

"We couldn't be happier that so many people decided to put on their virtual fishing cap and give Flick Fishing a try," says Ian Lynch Smith, president and co-founder of Freeverse.

The impressive barrier was crossed over the weekend, as technophiles unboxed their shiny new iPhone 3GSes and hit the App Store looking for games to play, while others upgraded their devices to the 3.0 software to try out the game's new multiplayer functions.

Only a few days before, similar celebrations were being held at the Firemint studios after Flight Control also crossed into seven figure territory.

"We're very proud that over one million players have discovered that Flick Fishing is a great way to enjoy summer fun on your iPhone without the pesky flies and mosquitoes."

Makes you think about learning to program for the iPhone, eh? Congrats, Freeverse!

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
