Demonstrating the amount of work that now has to go into an iPhone game, US publisher Freeverse has released the sequel to its 2008 Flick Bowling game.

And not only is it cheaper, but it's much, much bigger.

For one thing, you've got a zany Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure-style Story mode, in which you travel back in time to defeat the likes of Cleopatra, Napoleon, and Ghengis Khan over a shiny floor and with 20 bowls.

There's also a Fast Lane quick play mode, as well as single-player free play and Versus modes. Multiplayer is offered in Bluetooth and hotseat options.

Keeping track of how you're doing in the game comes via the trophy room, where you can view the pins and bowls you've won - there's Plus+ Achievements too - while you can also purchase additional content in the Pro Shop.

Each costing 99c, €0.79 or 59p, these options include the ability to use photos to wrap around bowls, a custom bowls pack and a Helen of Troy playable character and themed alley.

Of course, what's more important than these is the basic gameplay, which has you touching once to line up your throw and the flicking across the screen to bowl. You provide spin by curving at the end.

It all seems to work very nicely.

Flick Bowling 2 is out now, priced $2.99, €2.39 or £1.79.
