Shaun the Sheep: Fleece Lightning has landed on the App Store, representing a joint venture between Aardman Digital, publisher Chillingo and developer Green Ant.

The racing-style game pits the plucky protagonist Shaun against a herd of Naughty Pigs in a series of barnyard races.

The 80+ available courses in Fleece Lightning feature the traditional British countryside in all of its glory, complete with out of control tractors, flying chickens, exploding flowers, and giant puddles of mud which Shaun and the pigs must brave in order to win the farm’s delicious apples.

With simple tap and swipe controls, the game is accessible to adults and children alike.

Sheer madness!

While the above sounds like a good amount of fun to bring to Nick Park’s stop-motion Wallace and Gromit art style, the game also features a level designer that allows more creative gamers to compose their own race tracks.

Even if you’ve never heard of Shaun the Sheep before, the level editor makes the app worth checking out.

And sespite the lush graphics and level editor, Fleece Lighting dashes in at a svelte 19.5MB, making it a slender sheep to fit onto your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Fleece Lightning is priced at 99c, €0.79 or £0.69.
