Empire has confirmed a European release date for its PSP car carnage game FlatOut: Head On. You can expect to be pinging men out of car windscreens at 100mph on March 14th – something to put in the diary, surely?

FlatOut: Head On is the first game in the series to get a PSP release. The two home consoles before it were both an enjoyable change to your typical serious racer and offered all sorts of perfect post-pub mini-games that mostly involved events such darts, with your driver being the dart.

Similar over-the-top action looks likely for the PSP edition, as Empire says there are up to 4,000 destructible objects per track and a very accomplished physics engine for making those crashes look toe-curlingly realistic. Getting over the finishing line will be one thing. Doing it without leaving half of your car littering the track behind you will be an entirely more skilful accomplishment, as every car in the game can be smashed into little pieces.

For readers on the other side of the Atlantic, FlatOut's US release date is March 11th, so only just before we'll be getting it here.

You can check out a video of the game in action here, as well as read our interview with the game's producer. We should have a preview of Head On very soon, too, so look out for that.
