Due out this August, too

New Fire Emblem DS will have online battles

A few weeks ago Fire Emblem DS cropped up on Nintendo's Japanese release schedule and that was the first we heard of the game. It's not the last though, as today new information on the game has been spilled by Weekly Famitsu (and translated, hopefully correctly, by IGN).

Most exciting in the revelations is the news it will be the first in the long-running series to feature online battles. Players will be able to put together a group of five fighters from their single-player game then take them online to battle against friends.

Developer Intelligent Systems will also be improving the game – which is a remake of the original Fire Emblem game released on the NES in 1990 – by adding stylus battle-map controls and stretching action scenes across both screens. The game's artwork has been re-done so the game should look better than ever, and Weapon Ranks replace Weapon Skill. Whatever that means. (Just kidding.)

The game also now has a new title. It's now Fire Emblem: New Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, there's currently only a Japanese release date planned and that's expected to be sometime in August. Will it come out here? We'll let you know if there's any word it might.
