How's this for a game idea which couldn't sound any more cute and sickly if it tried? Taken from its press release:

"In their world of make believe Finkles are generated and simulated from raindrops. Their bodies look like colourful jelly and their hands hold onto flower umbrellas in their magical world."

This, my vomit-choking friends, is the story behind Lexicon's just-announced Finkles Adventure - a DS puzzle game due in early 2009.

To be fair, Finkles Adventure is designed as a 'family game', so at least parents can be assured there'll be no Grand Theft Auto-style OAP executions here. Instead, players must guide naughty Finkles floating about on the screen by their flower umbrellas to the ground. When they get three of the same colour together, they explode and disappear. Levels are won by clearing screens, getting high scores and also completing mission objectives.

There's more than that though - the game also comes with difficulty levels tailored to all - from newcomers to your more hardcore, dead-eyed gamers. There's also a multiplayer mode and various items and collectables thrown in for extra excitement.

Yes, flower umbrellas and floating jelly people can be exciting.

Finkles Adventure will also be coming out on Wii (from which the screenshot above is taken) at the same time. Click 'Track It!' to be kept informed on this one, if cutsey puzzling is your thing.
