Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales gets a May release date

Chocobo Tales has finally been given a firm(-ish) European release date. The bird-brained Final Fantasy spin-off is pencilled in for launch across all PAL territories by the end of May.

For those who are unaware of the flightless orthins that inhabit the Final Fantasy universe, the chocobos are most commonly large yellow feathered creatures that make for a great alternative to horses. Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales sees the chocobos take a promotion, hopping from sidekick status to full-blown protagonists in their own right in the RPG / mini-game mash up.

Pocket Gamer's own Ed Fear certainly enjoyed putting his feathered steeds through their paces when he ">reviewed the Japanese version last month, and we expect a tippety-top European translation.

If only some other big publishers would take the same approach to handhelds that Square Enix has. The world would be a better place, if only because we would moan less.
