Critical hit?

UFC-inspired Fight Game: Rivals punches out on Windows Phone

After the Zune Marketplace experienced a summer software drought of sorts following its Must Have Games promotion (and the utterly woeful appearance of Cro-Mag Rally), the entrance of a new contender comes as something of a blessed relief.

But before you either dismiss the game or embrace it in a bear hug, do be aware that Fight Game: Rivals isn’t exactly your normal, average fighting title.

In fact, it’s actually a turn-based RPG / rhythm-action game, meaning you pick moves and ‘buffs’ to perform each turn, customise your fighter’s skills, and have to time your hits to a reaction-based X-ray of your opponent’s body.

It also seems to feature breakdancing cutaways to improve skills mid-fight, which is novel.

There are six different fighters to choose from, each with their own separate list of special moves and skills, as well as a wealth of unlockable moves. The usual Leaderboard and Xbox Live achievements are available to gun for, too.

Fight Game: Rivals is out now on the Zune Marketplace, priced at £2.29.
