Hands on with The Fast and the Furious: Pink Slip for iPhone

Earlier this morning, we reported on I-play bringing The Fast and the Furious: Pink Slip to iPhone, complete with local wi-fi multiplayer.

Well, we've had a play on it since then at I-Play's HQ in London, including a test of that multiplayer mode. In advance of a review, here's our initial thoughts.

The most obvious thing about the game is its speed. It feels proper nippy as you streak round corners and drive fully-clothed along straights – certainly up there with the fastest iPhone racers.

The game really benefits from the iPhone's accelerometer, too, particularly when you're drifting. Being able to tilt the iPhone from side to side to keep your drift going feels very natural, letting you rack up drift points.

There appears to be an option to race with proper gear-changing, although it looks like it could take a bit of getting used to alongside the tilting.

And that multiplayer mode? It's for two players at once, and you have the choice of racing for fun, or having a proper 'pink slip' battle where the victor gets to keep the other's car. We can see some heated arguments over this feature (in a good way) – being able to nick someone's prized purple roadmonster via wi-fi is a great idea.

The game is out now, so stand by for a full review. Oh, and in case you're wondering, it's developed by Aussie studio Firemint, who did the mobile version.
