The social-centric Facebook title CivWorld will be closing its gates for good on May 29th.

In conjunction with Firaxis, Sid Meier brought the empire-building gameplay of his beloved Civilization franchise to Zuckerberg's Social Network in July 2011.

For this browser-based incarnation of Civilization, the devs created a persistent online world in which you could trade and scuffle to your heart's content.

At world's end

Unfortunately, CivWorld reached the zenith of its popularity not long after going live on Facebook, with around 89,000 players logging on daily to build better worlds.

Now, AppData reports that the game plays host to a paltry 2,000 daily active users.

If you are one of those 2,000 CivWorld players, you have until May 29th to put the finishing touches to your cities and spend any remaining CivBucks you have hoarded.

Incidentally, you can exchange Facebook Credits for CivBucks until April 2nd. If you're still fuzzy on anything relating to the game's closure, check out the CivWorld support page.
