DS isn't exactly home to a lot of serious racing games. In fact, we wouldn't be surprised if there were more horse riding/petting games than driving ones. So the news publisher Black Bean is to release Evolution GT on the console should be welcome news to any virtual petrol-head.

The game was actually first released on PS2 and PC in 2006, but the DS game promises to be quite a bit different. It does have the same officially licensed GT cars – including the Mercedes-Benz SLK and Audi A4 Touring Car – but it also supports game sharing so up to four players can go head-to-head in a race with just one copy of the game.

Races take place on tracks in eight different locations – London, Milan, Barcelona, Cote d'Azur, Corsica Island, Scottish Highlands, Berlin, Tuscany Hills to be exact. And five different game modes covering off the usual Quick Race, Championship, Career Time Attack and Multiplayer should ensure it's not all just cross-the-finish-line-first stuff. The game supports the DS Rumble Pak, too, so you'll really be able to feel the G-force going around those bends.

More significant than any of that, however, is the fact Evolution GT is being developed on DS by Glasgow-based studio Firebrand Games which has already proved its mettle with Race Driver: Create & Race. The studio is also currently working on TrackMania for DS and Race Driver: GRID, both of which are due out sometime this year – so there's some very busy people in Scotland right now.

Evolution GT is expected on June 23rd.
