Eve Online heading to Tegra 2-powered tablets and smartphones
The final platform frontier?
Looks like there’s competition brewing in the Tegra 2 MMO sphere.
Following the appearance of Vendetta Online by Guild Software, Icelandic developer CCP has revealed that it will be bringing its hugely popular PC space MMO Eve Online to Nvidia-powered tablets and smartphones.
During last week’s Eve Fanfest in Iceland the developer showed off an early concept build of an Eve ship complete with the familiar, baffling HUD that trips up so many young pilots in their first few hours of flight.
Don’t expect to see the full-blown game arrive any time soon. CCP’s CTO Halldór Fannar described the project as "exploratory", adding that the team wanted to see what kind of graphics could be produced on the Nvidia device.
“It opens up the possibility of having dedicated applications for doing market transactions, managing your skill queue and for instance fitting your spaceship”.
Still, as a one-time Eve flyboy (with the scars of a horrible asteroid ambush to show for it) the prospect of any form of tablet link up is an interesting one, especially if it’s something that’ll make keeping track of commodity and ore prices easier than a full-time affair with Microsoft Excel.
