Player X bringing Etch A Sketch to mobiles

Too early to draw conclusions but this one's not looking sketchy at all

The thing about the Etch A Sketch is that despite being lots of fun to mess about with, it isn't really the sort of toy that any child can use to actually draw pictures with. Most kids when handed one just tend to twiddle the knobs with gleeful randomness and are perfectly happy with the grey spaghetti mess they succeed in making.

We reckon if we got our hands one now (an Etch A Sketch, not a child) we'd probably have a bash at actually trying to draw something with it. You know, seeing that we're patient, composed adults as opposed to skittish madcap children. Supposedly.

Anyhow, it looks like we'll soon have our chance to prove it as Player X has just snagged the rights to publish Etch A Sketch on mobile. The title is set to include four modes, with the first two being Sketch Mode, where you can doodle to your heart's content, and a Photo Fun option where you can scribble on pictures taken with your phone.

In addition, you'll find more game oriented alternatives. Cut Out, for instance, has you using a small spherical character called Knobbie to fence off as much of the screen as possible while avoiding various enemies.

Then there's Block Buster Mode, which sees you using Knobbie to destroy a series of walls and secret chambers in order to save a magical Etch A Sketch board hidden deep inside a castle. And why not?

One interesting feature is the ability to send your creations to friends via the game's connectivity features, which should encourage a social aspect to develop. That's assuming everyone doesn't start sending each other drawings of willies, of course.

We'll see. For now, it's looking like lots of fun and we particularly like the neat retro vibe of the visuals. Click 'Track It!' to catch any forthcoming updates.
