Square Enix has announced plans to launch a new massively multiplayer online game (MMO) for mobile called Ellark, due for release in Japan this June.

It's got its own website, which is a holding page for now, although logos indicate that the game will be available through all three of Japan's mobile operators.

However, news site Siliconera has more details, claiming that the game will be free to download and play, but will make money through micro-transactions, with players paying for items with Square Enix's 'Mobicoin' virtual currency.

Siliconera also says the game is described as a 'Mail Play Game', which I assume means you interact with other players via the messaging and/or email functions of your phone.

Will it come to Europe anytime soon? Given that we're still waiting for any of Square Enix's innovative Final Fantasy mobile games to come out here, I wouldn't hold your breath.
