E3 2011: Persistent online shooter Dust 514 connects PS Vita to PS3, links with EVE Online
World's first cross-platform MMO shooter
CCP, creator of the hugely popular PC MMO EVE Online yesterday announced the forthcoming release of persistent online shooter Dust 514.
The game is headed to PS3 in summer 2012, but the PlayStation Network download will extend across the "full PlayStation ecosystem" to Sony's new handheld, the PS Vita (formerly known as NGP).
"We firmly believe that Dust 514 will offer the PlayStation community a unique MMO experience," Zeno Colaco, SCEE's VP, said.
"This is something that can only be achieved on PlayStation and to see the possibilities unfold, especially in the area of cross platform gaming, is truly exciting."
Set in the EVE Online universe, Dust 514 will enable players to affect events in the PC game through their actions in the shooter.
The game will be funded by the sales generated from the purchase of in-game items, like more advanced weapons, armour, and vehicles.
We'll bring you more news on this unique cross-platform experience - and further details of how it works on PS Vita - as soon as it emerges.
