Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime creeping towards DS
Rocket might be a slimy sort of guy, but he drives a tank so less of your lip!
Rocket the Slime might not sound like a very inviting hero, but he's one of most popular in the hardcore Japanese roleplaying series Dragon Quest.
Blue, tear-shaped and almost infinitely stretchy, he's a sad slime though: The Plob have invaded Slimenia and kidnapped all the slimes from the capital city of Boingburg. It seems only Rocket can save his friends and rescue Slimenia.
Before you run shrieking from this madness, take a deep breath. After all, the 35 million Japanese fans of the Dragon Quest series can't be wrong, can they?
Well, we'll find out soon enough as Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is being prepared as the first in the series to make its way to the Nintendo DS, and the UK.
The game is broken down into various adventure/platformer stages. As Rocket, you'll bounce and stretch your way to solve puzzles, as well as carry objects on your head. Really, could this game get any more strange?
Of course it can – at the end of each stage, Rocket hops into his warmongering Schleiman Tank and fights it out with rival monster tanks to gain victory. His tank is customisable, with various weapons and power-ups, and you can also call up allies as reinforcements to help out.
The game makers are even suggesting you'll be able to fire fellow slimes into the enemy tanks. The slippery fellas will then sneak through the cracks in the tanks' armour to sabotage them.
The mind boggles. Frankly we can't wait to find out what it all means, but we'll have to – there's no UK release date as yet.
