Pegged as a mixture of the King Arthur legends meet Star Wars but with dragons, animated kids show Dragon Booster is good news for Konami, which has snapped up the license for an exclusive DS game.

Combining racing, combat and action elements, the game is set in a world of dragons and humans. Our hero (because every dragon story needs a hero) is Artha Penn, who’s thrust into the limelight by legendary dragon Beaucephalis. Together they become a Dragon Booster and set out to defeat evil and right the usual array of wrongs.

Offering two different game modes, the main adventure path lets you play a series of linked missions which tells the story of the Libris Alliance. There’s also a challenge mode that lets you explore Dragon City, as well as training and breeding dragons. You can then take them and challenge other crews or your friends via the DS’ wi-fi link.

You can also use it to trade the in-game items that you’ll buy and win in the adventure mode. These items, or gears, are colour coded depending on their effect and can be used as upgrades when it comes to both the racing and combat elements of the game. You can use the wi-fi connection to swap dragons - and there will be 12 different species to collect - between your mates, too.

Still hatching out somewhere in the bowels of a volcano, Dragon Booster should be released this summer.
