Atari has announced its tactical-action-puzzler Downstream Panic! has shipped in North America. We don't usually bother with release announcements, but we haven't seen or heard too much of the game up until now. Besides, the new screenshots and official website indicate it's all looking rather nice, if quite reminiscent of Sony's LocoRoco.

Downstream Panic! has you playing the role of a sea-creature preservationist who's trying to save the world's fish after a massive cyclone blasted them all inconveniently into the Earth's atmosphere. The fish need to be guided safely back down to Earth (we would have assumed gravity would have taken care of that), although it's obviously not that simple and various obstacles and predators stand in their way.

Eight different types of tools help you save the fish and these include fans, bombs, trees, harpoons and, er, freezer. We're guessing these are laid in the fishes' path to guide them the right way, a bit like a Lemmings title.

The game contains over 80 levels across five colourful environments and three different play modes (Adventure, Free Play and Survival). Atari reckons that'll add up to ten hours of gameplay, and ten new Paradise-themed maps will be available for download after release.

The publisher hasn't confirmed a UK release date yet, but we'll keep an eye out for one.
