Not quite sure if Doodle Hex's DS rune battling is your thing? Then perhaps you might be interested in a free demo of the game which has cropped up on the Nintendo Channel for Wii.

In the demo, you play as Djin (one of the game's 14 playable characters) and complete against character Cassie in a duel. Which means you can check out the game's battle system, in which you cast runes by drawing shapes on the DS touch screen. By combining different runes, you create more powerful spell combos. However, while you're doing that you also need to fend off your opponent's attacks using your magical shield.

As we pointed out in our Doodle Hex review, it's a very original and comprehensive battling system. But it could also feel a bit too much like hard work for some. This demo then should help you decide if you fall into the 'like' or 'can't be bothered' category. You'll find it on the Nintendo Channel via your Wii (more info here) until October 3rd and, if you like it, the full Doodle Hex game is available now to buy.
