More bliss, less death

Imminent update to Cave's iPhone shmup DoDonPachi Blissful Death will deliver new customisation options

The iPhone version of tough-as-nails arcade shmup DoDonPachi Blissful Death is about to receive an update which will grant players a wealth of new customisation options.

The Custom Edit feature seems to be geared towards taking the razor-sharp edge off of the game's notoriously difficult bullet-hell action.

For example, activating Evasion Support makes it easier to dodge enemy fire, while Laser Boost (LV1) will give you - yup, you guessed it - a boost on your laser.

Interestingly, Mobility Delay will actually slow your ship down when using the laser, showing that Cave hasn't abandoned its trademark sadism altogether.

In addition to introducing these free options, the update will unlock a list of purchasable power-ups.

These vary in price from 69p / 99c for the second level versions of Laser Boost and Shot Boost, to an eye-watering £2.99 / $4.99 for the level-skipping Bee Licence upgrade.

However, if you absolutely positively have to own every last upgrade on the menu, then you can download the Blissful Set for the reduced price of £7.99 / $11.99 (RRP £11.99 / $16.99).

iPhone shooter fans can get their thumbs on these powerful plasma-charged supplements from April 12th.

You can download the Silver Award-winning DoDonPachi Blissful Death from the App Store for £1.99 / $2.99 now.
