Disney Interactive has announced its latest game for DS will be based on the upcoming animated film, Bolt.

Bolt, in case you didn't know, is a movie based around a Hollywood canine TV star who is inadvertently shipped to New York, from which he then tries to make his way home from. Unfortunately he then makes the discovery that the super powers he thought he had don't work in the real world.

It's effectively Lassie for a new generation of kids who expect their canine heroes to do more than simply bark a bit when a kid gets trapped down a well.

On DS the game enables you to play as both Bolt and his owner Penny. Bolt will have several handy powers, including laser vision and a superbark, which sends out a sonic blast to devastate enemies. Penny meanwhile is a dab hand at stealth, hacking skills and using a wheelbar.

Like Disney's last DS game, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Bolt incorporates the DGamer online feature, which lets players earn content, interact and chat with other Disney DS users. And you should also expect all sorts of competitive games, as well as co-op multiplayer and other mini-games.

If you ask me, Lassie with laser vision sounds like a winner. We'll have more for you on this one nearer to its release in November.
