Dexter to make a trophy of the iPhone

Darkly dreaming of the App Store (since facts are sparse)

This is about as exciting as licensed gaming news gets (for a fantasy sociopath such as myself, that is). Dexter, the iPhone game is lurking in the shadows. We already picked up on Dexter's iPhone presence at the 2008 Comic Con , but a screenshot (that looks suspiciously like artwork rather than a screen capture, but anyway) has surfaced along with a few extra details on the gameplay.

"I am so excited to have Icarus Studios on board to develop the Dexter iPhone game," said Marc Fernandez, veep of Marc Ecko Entertainment. "From the second we began this project we wanted to throw everything we had at it, that's exactly why we wanted Icarus Studios as a partner - a 100 person plus developer focusing their technology on making the Dexter game the best it can possibly be."

Everyone's favourite serial killer will apparently engage in a series of detective and forensic-type investigations followed by a player-made decision whether to report Dexter's finding to the police, or administer his own brand of gory justice. The effectiveness of every choice and interaction will revolve around the Code of Harry: only kill the guilty, maintain the mask, and, above all, don't get caught

"Dexter is a fresh and cutting edge series with elements that are perfect for a handheld videogame, so we are thrilled by this opportunity," said James Hettinger, CEO of Icarus Studios. "We are also extremely pleased to be working with Marc Ecko Entertainment and Showtime on this project. They are masters of entertainment and brands, so we could not be in better hands."

The multi-award winning story of Dexter is already something of an enigma; being one of the few novel series to translate so accurately and so well to the visual medium. Hopefully we'll find that Harry's Code translates equally well into iPhone code, though it's sad to see that after so much name dropping and back-slapping between the two studios, neither has yet to give the original author, Jeff Lindsay, so much as a mention.

Spanner Spencer
Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
