Dell reveals three new Android powered handsets

It seems the mother of all Dell leaks/PR stunts (delete according to level of cynicism) has occurred over on tech site Engadget, with a reveal that includes three exciting-looking Android handsets.

First up is the Dell Flash, which appears to be Dell’s attempt at redefining the mid-range Android handset for 2011.

Mid-range here means a device that runs on a tasty Qualcomm processor running at 800MHz.

There’s no hint of penny-pinching design either, with claims that it’ll be fashioned out of a piece of curved glass with a 3.5 inch WVGA LCD. Elsewhere there’ll be a 5MP camera, 512MB of RAM, WiFi, TV-out, a 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth 3.0.

Next up is the Dell Smoke, which boasts a 2.8-inch QVGA display in a vertical slider form factor. What’s more, the keyboard will be a full QWERTY affair, which should appeal to the Blackberry business crowd.

You want some specs? Try a Qualcomm 800MHz processor, a 5MP camera, microSD expansion to 32GB, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR the kind of dual-microphone noise-cancelling technology we’ve seen in the Nexus One. Oh, and it’ll all be wrapped in an ultra-slim 12mm shell.

Finally we have the aggressively named Dell Thunder, which features a whopping 4.1-inch WVGA OLED screen for its heavily customised Dell Stage UI. Internal specs are unknown at this time, but the device is expected to have an 8MP camera.

The Flash is set for a Q1 2011 release, the Smoke Q2 2011 and the Thunder for Q4 2010.

All should run the next release of the Android OS, which has already been assigned the name Froyo (that’s short for frozen yogurt, non-Americans).
