It’s been revealed that Dell is working on a new smartphone handset called the Dell Lightning, which promises to be one of the Windows Phone 7 launch offerings.

Interestingly, it’ll come in a vertical slider form factor with a full QWERTY keyboard, Palm Pre style.

The specs look mighty tasty indeed, but you’d expect that given the reportedly strict requirements laid out by Microsoft for its new mobile OS.

They include a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 4.1-inch OLED display, 5MP camera, 1GB of flash with 512MB RAM, 8GB of storage via MicroSD plus the usual GPS, accelerometer, compass and FM radio package.

Dell also promises full Flash support including video playback, though probably not from launch given Microsoft’s statement that WP7 won’t support the standard straight away.
