Def Jam Fight For NY: The Takeover

The Def Jam crew’s coming to whip yo dumb ass. Oh yes, mark our words…

Def Jam Fight For NY: The Takeover

“The ultimate hip hop fighting game,” blasts the press release. To help us work out what that actually means, why don’t we digest the facts:

The first Def Jam for PSP, Fight for NY: The Takeover is the prequel to the popular Def Jam Vendetta on consoles. You get to control a stellar hip hop cast, including Busta Rhymes, Lil' Kim, Ludacris, Method Man, Redman, Snoop Dogg, and Xzibit. And fortunately, given the inherent nature of a fighting game, all are apparently pretty handy at handling themselves.

Still, if you’d rather be your own man or woman, then you can create your own fighter, learning the numerous combat moves and – yep, you’ve guessed it – earning respect as you kick and punch your way to the top of the crew. And because fighting naked isn’t going to get you very far, EA has licensed an impressive selection of labels from which you can select the latest in urban wear, from the likes of Phat Farm, Sean John and Rocawear, to name but three.

Finally, in addition to the main story mode, the PSP’s wireless ability is used to provide one-on-one deathmatch style rounds. If only Tupac and Biggie Smalls had such a respectably violent yet bloodless way to sort out their feuds, maybe they would still be here to pick up some Def Jam royalties too.

Yes, life on the street is tough. You’ll be able to check out just how tough come this spring.
