If you've ever wondered why there isn't an Apple Newton tab at the top of this site, well, Apple's innovative PDA wasn't a huge success back in the 1990s, so demand for Newton-related gaming news is, at best, slim.

Still, there were games available for the device, including one called DSNewt, a space-based strategy title. It was also out for the Apple IIe computer (kids, ask your beardy uncle).

Anyway, the game has now been ported to iPhone, continuing the Apple lineage, albeit with the longer title DeepSpaceNewt.

It involves playing either an Amalgamation starship or a Stigon bopper, with the aim of blasting seven bells out of your foe using phasers and torpedoes.

You also get shields and cloaking devices to defend yourself, while exploring wormholes, planets and exploding stars. Or should that be avoiding them?

It's pricey at £4.99, but will offer Mac fanboys a slice of retro gaming bliss. But while we're on the subject of Apple-related retro space strategy games, can someone sort out an iPhone conversion of Spaceward Ho! sharpish?
