Remedy Entertainment, primarily known for the Max Payne series and the more recent Xbox 360 title Alan Wake, launched its first mobile game in March: Death Rally.

It's fair to say this particular iOS experiment has worked out well for the company on a couple of levels, and should lead to Remedy dipping its toes into the App Store waters again.

In an interview with Edge, Remedy head of franchise development Oskari Häkkinen disclosed that iPhone and iPad racer Death Rally took eight months to develop, but recouped those costs in just three days.

Häkkinen also revealed that its Bronze Award-winning title now has 1.8 million players and counting.

Multiplayer mayhem

And when questioned about the possibility of an iOS follow-up to Death Rally, Remedy creative director and writer Sam Lake gave a fairly definitive response: "Death Rally was our first step into that direction, and I'm sure that we'll do something else in the future as well."

Häkkinen added, meanwhile, that a multiplayer beta for Death Rally had recently gone live, which would allow friends to race together online.

"We've just released a beta of multiplayer, and we'll be introducing friends multiplayer so that you can actually invite your friends to a match. Previously it was just random - but you can shoot up people online, which is cool. It's a lot more fun to shoot your friend in the ass, though!"
