There's a space shooter with a difference coming to DSiWare soon.

Cosmos X2 throws your ship into the fray with a choice of three different weapons. Two weapon systems can be installed into your craft at any one time.

When a gun is fired off, it loses energy. Deplete the entire energy bar, and you'll have to switch to the other weapon. Run out of that one, too, and you're in big trouble.

Fortunately, there's a way to gain energy back. Every time you kill an enemy, the energy bar of the inactive weapon will increase. Hence it's all about balancing your use of the two weapons efficiently.

The three weapon systems provide a variety of different play styles. The Power weapon fires of high powered shots, while the Attraction system provides weaker lasers, but absorbs enemy fire with your shield.

Finally, the Repulsion weapon fires three shots out in a spread, and allows you to turn the enemies bullets against them.

All sounds like an interesting concept, and with six side-scrolling levels and three bonus modes to play through, this could turn out to be a DSiWare essential.

The game was originally announced for Nintendo DS way back in 2007, so the switch to DSiWare three years later suggests the developers are picking up where they left off.

Cosmos X2 will be coming to the DSiWare shop soon.
