When it comes to Nintendo's summer release schedule for DS, there are very few surprises; we've known about More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain?, Puzzle League DS, Elite Beat Agents, and Pokémons Diamond and Pearl for months. Heck, we've reviewed most of them.

Freshly Picked: Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland is something altogether new, however.

Indeed, it was one of those game that when released in Japan, everyone assumed would never make it to the outside world. After all, Tingle is a fat, middle-aged man who's obsessed with fairies and dresses up in a skin-tight green suit similar to that worn by Link from The Legend of Zelda games. Completing his oh-so camp characteristics is his tendency to float from a red balloon and call out, 'Tingle-Tingle, Kooloo-Limpah'.

Curious pastimes for sure, but it's his ability to create maps that's one of the focuses of Freshly Picked. A role-playing adventure, the game involves you working your way through various island levels, filling in the gaps in the map as well as fighting your way through dungeons by furiously tapping enemies with your stylus.

Money (or rupees) also plays an important part in the game. As well as reflecting Tingle's health, money is used to barter with various in-game characters to buy items needed to make progress in and between the different island levels.

Frankly, it sounds intriguing (/barmy), and we look forward to finding out more about Mr Tingle in due course.
