Japan's top 100 bestselling DS games (2006)

As the fateful day of stuffing, cranberry sauce and cheap Cava approaches, so the TV schedules will start to fill up with those evening-long list programmes hosted by marginal funnymen such as Jimmy Carr. Surely it can't be long before we get a top 100 list of top 100 shows?

Also getting into the spirit, albeit with a gaming twist, is Japanese geek mag Famitsu, which through some devilment of modern science (also known as electronic point of sales systems – Ed), has compiled a top 100 list of the bestselling DS games in Japan ever (as of mid-November 2006).

It's no surprise to see Nintendo rules the list, with the nine of the top ten, although how Namco Bandai's Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop managed to sell over a million copies is beyond us.

Other interesting points to note are the weak performance of games such as Metroid Prime Hunters (number 68) and Star Fox Command (number 70). Despite selling well in Western markets, the Japanese tend not to enjoy games with first-person 3D graphics. Also, Western-developed fodder such as The Sims 2, FIFA and Need for Speed doesn't feature in this list at all.
