Brand new screens of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on DS

If The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass isn't a game we look back fondly on in a decade's time, we'll eat our DS Phat. From the innovative stylus-based gameplay already revealed to the clever wi-fi modes (such as the Pac-Man style multiplayer match-up we recently got hands-on with) this is shaping up to be the must have title of the year.

Assuming it arrives this year, of course. These new screens – 11 of only two dozen or so that have ever been officially released to the UK online press – show lead hero Link gabbling away in Japanese, which doesn't bode well for a 2007 release here in Europe.

On a brighter note, the new shots do give us another chance to see how well the designers of this iteration of the classic RPG are responding to DS's dual-screens, with the map implementation making Zelda look tailormade for the 40million-selling console.

Graphically things are looking good too, although we're not certain if those cartoon style characters will be in real-time or cutscenes. You can click through the screens and decide for yourself (using the little arrows). Then click 'Track It!' to get emailed more news when we have it.
