As the song goes, it’s a man's world. At least it certainly is when we’re talking about the Mushroom Kingdom. If everything’s OK, Bowser or Wario will mess it up. If anything needs to be fixed, Mario or Luigi will do it. Despite being the supposed ruler of the kingdom, all Princess Peach ever does is get kidnapped.

No more. In Super Princess Peach, the tables are turned. This time Bowser’s shown remarkable lateral forethought and kidnapped Mario and Luigi instead. So now it’s up to Peach, to rescue the boys - feminists rejoice.

Being a princess, however, she’ll do it in an elegant and dainty way. She can whack enemies sure, but she’ll use her parasol. More powerful are her emotional powers.

Picking up the vibrations unleashed by Bowser’s Vibe Wand, when Peach feels joy, she can float in the air as well as create hurricanes to clear away enemies and spin windmills. Calmness makes her become invincible and lets her health rebuild. When she’s gloomy, she starts to run incredibly fast. She’ll also cry, which, in true fairytale mode, will make the plants grow. Finally, when she’s angry, she will burst into flames, burning everything around her.

Personally, we’d suggest a course of valium and a nice hot cup of sugary tea, but with eight areas to work through - completing various stages, beating bosses, releasing Toads and collecting coins - and not to mentioning rescuing Mario and Luigi, Peach just doesn’t have the time.

She's still choosing what to wear so it will take awhile - Super Princess Peach is due for release on the 26th May.
