The Puyo Pop games epitomise that wonderful Japanese penchant for taking something as non-character based as a match-three puzzle game and adding in a wheelbarrow full of manga-esque schoolgirls and round eyed weirdoes.

Anyway, 1UP has been thumbing through Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu this morning, and has uncovered info that suggests Sega now has Puyo Pop 7 in development, which promises more of the Tetris-like, match-four (that’s right - in Puyo Pop you get to match an extra object. That’s kind of like its ‘thing’) on the DS and PSP.

And Wii, but we’re not bothered about that.

Puyo Pop 7 will boast online play alongside the usual game modes, including an evolution of the previous Fever mode in which you can deflect the opposition’s attacks.

The DS version is expected to launch on July 30th in Japan, while the PSP game isn’t expected until winter. No mention as to whether we can expect any DSi-specific features, though.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
