Forget Xbox 360 and even Wii (let alone PSP and PlayStation 3), Nintendo is basking in the glory that not only its DS the best-selling console in the UK and Europe during 2006, it also outsold the competition during the merry month of December too.

Over 500,000 units were sold in the UK during the month, while 1.7 million were shifted throughout Europe, according to figures collected by research firm Chart-Track.

In contrast, Nintendo 'only' sold 200,000 Wiis in the UK during December, although it would have sold more if it had been able to manufacture them.

And according to its predictions from last week, Nintendo expects to have sold 34 million DS and DS Lites by the end of March.
