When it comes to the hierarchy of French/Belgium comics, Lucky Luke, the poor lonesome cowboy who can draw a six gun faster than his shadow, ranks well behind the likes of Tintin and Astérix.

Still, the gunslinger possess a certain joie de vivre – even if a touch languid – so maybe it's only fair he gets to enjoy some time in the spotlight.

And while French-financed film Lucky Luke: Go West! (which is due this Christmas) is unlikely to measure up to the Spielberg/Jackson take on Tintin, French publisher Atari reckons it's worth a punt when it comes to releasing a tie-in game.

A version will emerge for DS (as well as Wii and PC), with stylus-based mini-games involving speed draws, dancing, rhythm action and steering wagon trains being the main focus.

These will be structured around the plot, which sees Luke escorting his long-term nemeses, the idiotic Dalton brothers, to New York where they are to stand trial. They, of course, make an escape and end up robbing banks, blowing things up and then forgetting where they stashed the loot.

As per usual, Lucky Luke will be aided by Jolly Jumper, 'the smartest horse in the world', while Red Indians, cops and cowboys are all set to make appearances, too.

Lucky Luke: Go West! is due to be released in November.
