Take your stylus onto the slopes as DS gets Line Rider
It's time to toboggan
Like all the best Internet phenomenon, Bostjan Cadez's Line Rider started off as a piece of school work (if only we could say the same thing for Pocket Gamer). But since its debut on 23th September, the simple etch-a-sketch-style plaything where you draw a track for a little computer rider to sledge down has been been played over 15 million times, as well as spawning over 11,000 YouTube videos.
And now the flash-based toy is upscaling with gamemaker inXile signing up the rights for a DS (and Wii) version.
As Cadez himself points out: "As much as people see it as a game, I think of it as a toy because there is no score and no one wins or loses while playing."
It will be interesting to see whether in the DS game the sledger will meet up with any of his online imitators, such as the various copycat versions employing alternative vehicles such as a chair, a surfboard, a bike and even a jeep.
Fast as gravity will allow, inXile expects to release Line Rider sometime during the spring thaw.
