It's been a huge success on Xbox Live Arcade, but now Bizarre Creation's 2D vector graphics spaceshooter Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved (XBLA version pictured) is making the move over to a proper retail release on Nintendo platforms (DS and Wii).

The business side of the deal is a little complex (what with Bizarre being matey with Nintendo hardware rival Microsoft) so while Vivendi takes on publishing duties, UK developer Kuju will actually be making the games, with Bizarre's oversight, of course.

As for how the game will evolve, Galaxies will have plenty of new features, including a mission-based Campaign mode, with new enemies, weapons, and gameplay types. The Retro Evolved game mode will also be present, while much is promised when it comes to the multiplayer modes. These will include hot seat, co-op, simultaneous and versus options, and there will be online leaderboards as well. And bonus content will be unlockable if you connect the DS and Wii versions of the game.

Perhaps what's most interesting at this stage however is how the control system will work.

"We've prototyped on the DS ... so we're confident that the games will play superbly on the new platforms and will avoid the trap of adding a new control method just for the sake of it," reckons Bizarre Creation's community and web lead, 'Ben', and until we get our stylus on the game, we guess we'll just have to take his word for it.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies is due for release during the autumn.
