Fossil League brings dinosaur battles to DS

Find, dig, train and tame the beasts, then learn all about them with your Dinopedia

Product: Fossil League: Dino Tournament Championship | Publisher: D3Publisher | Genre: RPG
No less a figure than Picasso was once reported to have said: "Good artists copy, great artists steal". How that translates to computer games is hard to gauge, but his maxim did spin through our mind as D3Publisher announced its latest DS game, Fossil League.

Playing as a boy action star called Taiga, Fossil League's backstory sees you travelling back in time to collect, tame and battle dinosaur fossils in what's described as a Pokemon-style.

To be honest, this approach sounds remarkably similar to Buena Vista's Spectrobes – another game where you have to collect fossils, and train and fight with the resulting creatures.

There are a few differences, of course. Fossil League seems to be focused on real-life dinosaur species, and boasts a Dinopedia, which will provide you with numerous dinosaur facts and tips as you engage your thunder lizards in fun mini-games and undertake archaeological digs.

Spectrobes, on the other hand, is a work of pure fantasy and will be backed by a multi-million dollar marketing campaign.

As no less a figure than Darwin might have said, let the best species win; like Spectrobes, Fossil League is due to be released in March 2007.
