Nintendo's already had a fair amount of success with its adult-focused 100 Classic Books DS release, but EA is taking the concept to its logical conclusion with its FLIPS kids' range.
Working with publishers such as Penguin and Egmont, each FLIPS title will feature six to eight books.
As well as containing these books, there will be interactivity in terms of quizzes and references to characters to encourage concentration and provide an incentive to finish every chapter. Also, within the books, links appear to give the reader a unique way of enhancing their experience.
The first four releases will be:
Enid Blyton - The Enchanted Wood, The Magic Faraway Tree, The Folk of the Faraway Tree, Enchanted World - Petal and the Eternal Bloom, Enchanted World - Melody and the Enchanted Harp, Enchanted World - Silky and the Rainbow Feather.
Eoin Colfer - Artemis Fowl, Artemis Fowl and the Arctic Incident, Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code, Artemis Fowl and the Opal Deception, Artemis Fowl and the Lost Colony, Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox.
Too Ghoul For School - Silent but Deadly, The In-Spectres Call, Ghoul Dinners, The Bubonic Builders, Attack of the Zombie Nits, School Spooks Day, French Fright, Terror In Cubical Four.
The first four FLIPS titles will be released on Nintendo DS in the UK on the 4th December 2009, priced at £24.99.
I have bought three of the four available Flips for the DS
and I am stunned!
It is really a fantastic way of reading, even for me as an adult.
It is much easier holding the Ds which contains a pile of books
than holding the heavy books themselves
- I have read many fantasy series
accompanied with considerable back pain.
I would really like to get the Harry Potter series
and the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy
as an interactive Flips title.
I can really recommend the Flips book collections
both for children and adults who are interessted in reading children´s books.
Hope for for more Flips titles soon!
And by the way, I can recommend the "100 Classic Book Collection", too,
for adults who like a bit of heavy reading!
