Brain training is as popular in 2008 as ever

Is it the trend that will never end?

Brain training is as popular in 2008 as ever

DS brain training titles are still topping the charts across Europe despite it being over two years since the original Brain Training hit DS consoles here.

According to information released by Media Control GfK International (and reported by GamesIndustry.biz), brain training games were number one in charts listing the top-sellers in a range of European countries for the first six months of 2008.

In Holland, Switzerland and Belgium the original Brain Training is still the most popular game, while in Germany it's More Brain Training. Both games were in top two slots for Spain.

They both featured in the top ten for Austria and Italy too.

According to Media Control GfK International's MD Ulrike Altig, the game's are part of the reason DS is such a heavyweight in the European console market.

"The success is closely associated with the brain training trend," said Altig. "Players use the DS particularly often for brain training exercises".

It's an interesting thought that DS might not be half the console it is today without Dr Kawashima and a game that involves saying the names of colours into a microphone. We remember a time when it was Sonic and Mario selling games consoles - not some big-brained Japanese professor.

We're guessing this also means Nintendo announcing yet another brain training game for DS is an inevitability too.
