eBay speaks out over counterfeit DS Lites

Apparently it's not happy about them

eBay speaks out over counterfeit DS Lites

Yesterday, we told you that a couple in Bromley, Kent, has been arrested for selling counterfeit DS Lites. This was following a story from the beginning of December about UK customs officials seizing hundreds of fake DS Lites destined to be sold in the UK, complete with deadly untested chargers, for as little as £40.

The couple is thought to have accumulated a fortune of £50,000 in December alone, and one of the ways they managed this was to sell the DS Lites on eBay.

Understandably concerned about consumer confidence, eBay has got in touch with Pocket Gamer to assuage fears. This being a slow news day, we’ll pass the message on.

Richard Ambrose, Head of Trust and Safety for eBay UK, told us, “This investigation sends a clear signal to sellers of counterfeits who rip off buyers on our site that they won’t get away with it.

“eBay works closely with law enforcement agencies like trading standards to tackle fake goods. Counterfeits are bad for everyone - consumers, manufacturers, respectable sellers and eBay.

"Trust is the engine of eBay and the trade of counterfeit products undermines that trust.”

Of course, there are three corners to this triangle: the counterfeiters, eBay, and the consumers who give each a chunk of their fortunes.

With that in mind, here's a public safety announcement. If you see a new DS on sale for £40, we urge you to solicit the advice of somebody with common sense before proceeding with your purchase.
