New Zelda game coming to DS in 2009?
Somebody seems to think it might
Before I go on there are two important caveats. Firstly, this isn’t an announcement. It’s a piece of speculation from analyst Colin Sebastian of Lazard Capital Markets.
In a note to investors, reported by Gamespot, Sebastian predicted that a new Zelda game would be among 22 titles likely to fuel a 5 per cent growth in video game sales next year.
Secondly, the general consensus following this story is that the new Zelda game, if it exists, will appear on Wii.
We have our doubts, though. For a start, Wii development takes a lot longer than DS. If it were coming so soon, surely we’d know something about it beyond Miyamoto’s vague assurance a few months ago that Nintendo is still working on hardcore franchises.
Or maybe not. We just don't know.
In any case, if Nintendo is working on a Zelda game the feeling in Pocket Gamer Towers is that it’s likely to be a portable release, designed to take advantage of camera technology to lure gamers away from the DS and into the arms of the DSi.
It could be a Wii game, though. Or it might not exist at all. That’s the beauty of analysts: they give us temporary license to dream.
