With the US release of
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian on DS, Disney's finally launched its online social gaming initiative
DGamer. Designed initially for DS and PC titles but planned for all platforms that Disney can get access to, DGamer is the equivalent of Xbox Live but shaped specifically for Disney games.
Once you've registered, it does all the usual things such as tracking game stats, awarding you Achievement-style points for meeting in-games objectives, as well as providing Mii-style customisable avatars and letting you building friends lists and communicate across DS and PC.
In terms of DS usage, it's actually built on top of the
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which means -
as we discovered at GDC - you have to quit your game and launch DGamer separately to toy around with it.
Still, it seems like an interesting approach from a company that's not always been in the vanguard of new technology. We just hope it will be available for European gamers when
Prince Caspian is released over here on June 20th
