Is there no stopping Nintendo's plight to get us fit?

The new DSi wasn't the only new bit of hardware shown at Nintendo's press conference this morning. The company also showed a quick glimpse of what will be a pedometer peripheral.

Fitness title Aruite Wakaru Seikatsu Rhythm DS was shown in a video of upcoming games at the conference, and so was this picture (reproduced by DSFanboy).

It's difficult to tell exactly what it is, admittedly, but Nintendo recently trademarked an identical peripheral (at the time no one knew if it was a Wii or DS add-on) which confirms it's a pedometer, similar to the one Ubisoft created for use with My Health Coach: Weight Management.

So on top of Wii Fit, Nintendo looks set to bring portable fitness to us via the DS. Could gamers be in danger of losing their stereotype as lazy, flabby coach dwellers? If Nintendo keeps this up, quite possibly.
