Paid a fiver for your DS charger? You might not want to use it in that case

The BBC News has reported that "hundreds of thousands" of dodgy AC power adaptors from China are currently for sale on the UK high street, with versions compatible with DS, DS Lite and Game Boy highlighted as the worst of the lot.

The adaptors retail for around £5 in the shops. Which should make them quite a bargain, except that thanks to exposed wires and pins that don't fit correctly into UK plug sockets they actually might electrocute you.

Not so tempting now, are they?

Retailers can identify the offending adaptors through the product code DE62347066. Many of the units carry a fake version of the European CE safety mark so don't assume that if you can see one everything is fine. You could be using a POTENTIAL DEATHTRAP.

On a serious note, consumers should contact their local Trading Standards office if they're concerned they might have bought one of the chargers.
