Following a mysterious Nippon Ichi advert posted on website Aeropause recently showing a seemingly redesigned DS with larger screens, rumours have been rife that Nintendo is set to release a new model DS at some point in the near future.

After all, as some websites point out, Nintendo has a history of releasing newly designed handheld hardware every three years, and it's been three years since the release of DS Lite. That, coupled with this advert points quite strongly that an announcement at next month's E3 could be likely.

However, Nintendo has called this kerfuffle "purely rumour and speculation". Which actually is nothing new - it's the standard line the company gives to anything it's not ready to discuss. But is does suggest we certainly won't be hearing anything prior to E3 from the company regarding a possible redesign.

Still, half the fun of E3 is guessing beforehand what will be announced, and, based on the amount of whispers a new DS will be there, we're not going to be too surprised if it is.
