Following a little flurry of internet speculation that a new DS would be unveiled at this year's E3, Nintendo has seen fit to quash the rumours once and for all.

The rumours began after Hirokazu Hamamura, publisher of Japanese video game 'bible' Weekly Famitsu, spoke out saying there was a chance such a product would be revealed at the July industry exhibition.

Nintendo however has had this to say to GamePro: "We cannot comment on the specifics of what will be announced at E3, but at the very least there won't be anything like what Mr. Hamamura suggested, so would like to clearly deny this. We're having a hard time understanding what kind of evidence [Mr. Hamamura] had for saying this."

Which, as far as denials go, sounds like a pretty firm one to us. Still, E3 wouldn't be E3 without the rumours beforehand of new consoles and Mario games. We'll just have to hope a DS Zelda: Four Swords is there instead.
