Another half million DSs sold in US
The march to 0.1 billion continues
There may be plenty of competitive price elasticity predictions occurring when it comes to the Xbox 360 versus PlayStation 3 but if there's one thing that seems to be relatively stable, it's the top selling status of the DS in North America.
During February, DS was once against top of hardware sales, according to the NPD Group, with nearly 587,600 units sold. Wii was next with nearly 432,000 sold. Together they accounted for 48 per cent of all gaming hardware sold in the US and Canada.
In addition, more than 3.6 million units DS games were bought during February, as were what Nintendo refers to as 1.2 million DS 'accessories' (we're assuming cases, extra styli, skins etc).
Interestingly though, in Japan, DS has been knocked off the top spot when it comes to handheld hardware sales in recent weeks thanks to the release of new coloured versions of the PSP.
Still with a lifetime total of over 22 million DSs sold in Japan and around 70 million globally, we'd imagine it's unlikely Nintendo's beancounters are losing any sleep, although the next big question is whether it will ever beat the all-time best selling console mark, PlayStation 2's 120 million install base
