We're all going to die - DEFCON DS countdown is underway
Launches in September, according to UK retailers
There have been plenty of rumours over the months that Introversion's PC thermonuclear war simulator DEFCON. was heading to portable platforms. In fact, we ran a story direct from the horse's mouth last summer that the developer was experimenting with handheld options.
Personally we would have liked to see a PSP version, but it would probably be better suited to a digital download rather than the money-sapping effort of dealing with retail UMDs.
Anyhow, UK retailer Play.com now has a listing for DEFCON DS, which makes sense in terms of the control method, if not the screen aspect ratio or target audience. We're guessing the touchscreen would need to be a scrolling, zoomable option for the game to work properly.
So, it seems all Dr Strangelove-loving armchair generals will have the opportunity to position their radar stations, AA missiles batteries, ballistic missile submarines and the other various hardware of war on their DSs before September is out.
Let's just hope Vladimir Putin isn't a fan or things around the Black Sea could be getting considerably warmer...
